What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. The formula is: BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)² or BMI = (weight (lb) x 703) / height (in)².

BMI Categories

Underweight: Below 18.5
Normal: 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight: 25 - 29.9
Obese: 30 and above

Limitations

BMI doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat. Athletes may have high BMI but low body fat. It also doesn't account for age, sex, or body composition differences.
